The Sporting Car Club of SA has hosted this year’s fourth round of the Motorsport Australia South Australia State Circuit Championships with around 115 entries taking part.

With five categories each getting five races across the weekend, it was set up for a grand spectacle and every category delivered as the racing in proved to be a close affair.

One of the most entertaining showdowns of the race meeting came within the category that boasted the event’s largest field of 38 cars, but it came down to just two drivers who went head-to-head in the Excel series all weekend.

Jayden Wanzek was on track to claim a rare round victory over Asher Johnston, a driver who has dominated the category in recent times, courtesy of three wins in the first four races.

However in an unfortunate twist of fate, a DNF in the final race to Wanzek, allowed Johnston to comfortably get his second win of the round and having finished second in all of Wanzek’s wins, Johnstone ultimately came away with the round honours.

Like the Excels, the Saloon Cars and HQ Holdens came down to just two drivers fighting it out for outright honours as Wayne King and Scott Dorman each grabbed multiple victories.

But at the end of the day, it was Dorman who could claim bragging rights after his two victories on Sunday saw him end the weekend with three wins, one more than King.

A bit further down the field, Darryl Crouch’s three wins saw him as the fastest in the HQ Holden class as he fended off challenges from two-time race winner Darren Jenkins.

In the joint Improved Production and Group N field of 24 cars, only one driver managed to finish on the podium in every race and that was Scott Cook, who picked up two wins in the process.

Christopher Brown was dominant on Saturday after winning both races but didn't feature on Sunday, while Adam Poole enjoyed some success on the second day too thanks to a race win and second place.

John Goodacre and Sam Shahin each enjoyed two wins in the Sports Car category, however it was Goodacre who claimed top honours after he ended the weekend with another two second places.

The only other driver to get a win during the round was Yasser Shahin who just took part on Saturday, where he also added a second place to his tally.

Yasser was again in action during the 25 car Racing Cars category, but it was Timothy Cook who ended the weekend as the outright winner, courtesy of his four consecutive wins and being the only driver of the meeting to dominate a category.

The final round of the season takes place on 28 November.
