While the annual supersprint is already popular amongst many of the club’s members, this year has seen a surprising increase in entrants, with 35 competitors.
Making this weekend’s event even more special is the inclusion of competitors from clubs all around at the state - not just CMI members.
And with less motorsport occurring in 2020 than usual years, club secretary David Button was thrilled to have such a big entry list.
“The CMI Baskerville Supersprint is the classic grassroot event where competitors take part purely for the love of their cars and to get some track time for the year.” Button said.
“We are very excited for this weekend because it’s our biggest entry list for a while and it indicates people are really keen to compete.
“Apart from our event at Queens’ Domain towards the end of last year, the only other event we did was this event in March, so to say we’re all itching to get to Baskerville is an understatement.
“I think the lack of opportunities over the past 12 months for people doing club level track days is the main reason we have more entries this year. It’s great for the club though.
“This event is especially important for the club as it sets us up for the rest of the year, so we’re really looking forward to giving people the chance to run their pride and joys.”
Heading into the round as the favourite for the event will be Al van Dullemen with the Mitsubishi Starion driver the only individual from last year’s top five entered in the event this year.
van Dullemen and the remaining 34 competitors will be split into multiple groups across the day and each driver will get plenty of track time to post the event’s fastest time.
The CMI Baskerville Supersprint takes place at Baskerville Raceway on 6 March.
