The Kincrome SXS Motorsport Australia Championship resumes this weekend with the third round of the 2021 season to take place in Kooralbyn in South East Queensland.

Sixteen crews have confirmed their entry for the round with a number of high profile names to take part – most notably Cody Crocker, who returns for the first time after his round one win in March.

After missing the opening two rounds of the season, 2019 SXS Sport runner up Tim Liston has also confirmed his to compete in his first outing in the championship since that dramatic 2019 season finale where he finished ninth and lost out in the outright title fight.

Two drivers vying for this year’s title are both locked in for the round with Stephen Henry and first-year rookie Trevor Finck on equal points at the top of the standings – the winner here to enjoy the lead to themselves heading into the midway point of the season.

A number of BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) competitors will also be running this weekend in preparation of next month’s Tatts Finke Desert Race, most notably 2018 SXS champion Simon Evans, 2019 SXS champion Jackson Evans and Kye Floyd, the latter making an impressive impression at the Cobb & Co Hotel St George 399 in March.

Another driver who turned heads in St George and will be running this weekend is teenager Josh Wiedman. The Queensland local had a brilliant start to the AORC’s first round, only to retire on the second day due to niggling car issues.

With Wiedman to make his Kincrome SXS Motorsport Australia Championship debut this weekend, the 16-year-old was looking forward to racing against other drivers.

“The thought of racing against another car at the same time is a really exciting one because it’s the first time I will be doing that as I have only ever done races where it’s one car at a time,” Wiedman said.

“Although this is my first time racing against other cars, I will treat it the same as any other race. The only differences will be that I have to push harder off the start to get ahead and that it’s a different track, a shorter one than I am used to.

“I am also excited with some of the other people to be racing this weekend. To have someone like Cody Crocker competing is awesome and it will be good to see how I can match up against him. It would also be cool to get some advice from him at one point.

“This is my second year of racing and most of my focus last year was to win all junior competitions. This year though, I am going for more outright results, so it should be good.

“As for the rest of this year’s Championship, I suppose it depends on how I go this weekend. I was already hopeful of doing multiple events, but if I get a good result, then we will do whatever we can to get to other events.”

Official business for the round gets underway on Friday with scrutineering to take place on the Kooralbyn Valley Airstrip from 5pm AEST onwards.

On Saturday morning, prologue begins from 9:30am, setting up the first of four 100km races at 10:30am. With the final race to begin at 3pm, the podium presentation will be held at the track one and half hours later.

Fans wishing to attend the event can enjoy free spectating at the venue, located one and a half hour drive south of Brisbane.

The Kincrome SXS Motorsport Australia Championship’s third round of the 2021 season takes place at The Compound in Kooralbyn on 14-15 May.
