Entries for the 2021 Motorsport Australia Hill Climb Championship at Mount Cotton are now being accepted.

Originally calendared for 21-24 October, the MG Car Club of Queensland was forced to postpone the event to the end of November as borders remain closed for some parts of the country.

MG Car Club have confirmed they have every intention of holding the event in November, with Motorsport Australia’s support.

“The MG Car Club of Qld is endeavouring to host the 2021 Motorsport Australia Hill Climb Championship at the Mt Cotton Hillclimb over the weekend of 25-28 of November,” The statement read.

“We are very aware of the current COVID-19 and lockdown situation that is currently in place in many states.

“We remain hopeful that free movement between the states will once again be possible by the end of November.

“We will continue to closely monitor the progress of closures and restrictions in the ensuing weeks and make a final decision on 15 October as to whether the event will still be held this year.”

Like previous editions, the event will be run over four days, with unofficial practice to take place on the Thursday, official practice on the Friday and the two competition days on Saturday and Sunday.

Competitors will have up to seven official timed attempts to post their fastest run with the driver boasting the best time of the weekend to be crowned champion for 2021.

This year’s championship will also feature the first-ever Junior Championship category, which is open to drivers aged between 14-18-years-old as of 27 November.

While the outright hill climb winner itself will be recognised on their single fastest attempt, the junior category will be run as a regularity trial, meaning the best five runs will count towards a competitor’s total score.

Entry fees for outright competitors start from $310, while the Junior Championship fee is $120 per entry. All monies will be refunded should the event be cancelled.
