It’s been a long time coming but the Repco Supercars Championship finally returns this weekend.
It’s been 104 days between Cameron Waters’ race three win at the Townsville SuperSprint in July, and now the cars are ready to get back on track at the Bunnings Trade Sydney SuperNight’s first practice session on Friday afternoon.
A lot has happened since Waters won that race, including plenty of driver changes locked in for 2022.
With several calendar changes also announced in recent months as border restrictions shifted, the final schedule for this year is locked in.
Four consecutive weekends at Sydney Motorsport Park and a six-day extravaganza at the Repco Bathurst 1000 to wrap up the season make up the busy end to this season, in what will be a mouth-watering treat for motorsport fans.
Supercars have confirmed each round at the iconic Sydney circuit will sport a slightly different format and schedule in order to keep each round unique.
The first of the four back-to-back rounds at Eastern Creek begins this weekend and it will be the first time Australia’s premiere championship competes under the circuit’s 132 new permanent lighting towers.
There will be three races, all of which will be 32-laps and two of which will be run under lights.
As well as fighting it out for the outright championship, drivers will also be battling it out for the newly introduced Beaurepaires Sydney Cup over the next four rounds, with the winner to be the driver who accumulates the most points across all four Eastern Creek rounds.
Up to 10,000 fans will be allowed to attend the three-day event and while they will be unable to head to the Supercars paddock, the Support Category Paddock will be accessible with a Trackside ticket.

Fans unable to make it can watch the full broadcast via Foxtel and Kayo or on the Seven Network live from 3:30pm AEDT on Saturday at 12:30pm AEDT on Sunday.
