Supercars Super Preview: Sydney Motorsport Park V3

Two down, two to go.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride at Sydney Motorsport Park for the Repco Supercars Championship over the past two weeks.

From a results point of view, there have been no major surprises on the winner’s list, with Shane van Gisbergen and Anton De Pasquale sharing multiple victories and Jamie Whincup also claiming a win, in what was a drama filled and wet race 25.

As for the rest of the field, everyone has been involved in the drama in some capacity throughout the two rounds with a good mix of strong performances.

Supercars have tried to mix it up for each round at Eastern Creek and this weekend’s BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint will again be different to the previous two rounds.

Like those two rounds, there will be three one-hour races with a three-stage qualifying session to set up Saturday’s sole race and two 10-minute back-to-back qualifying sessions to set up Sunday’s two outings.

What separates this round from the others is that it’s the only one of the four consecutive Sydney Motorsport Park rounds where there is no racing under lights with all three races to occur during the day.

Apart from the race times, the BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint will act as a themed round with family to be celebrated.

To mark Family Round, Supercars drivers have been posing for satirical family photos, while there are also discounts for family pass tickets and a variety of fun off-track activities for families throughout the two-day event.

Fans will also have the chance to take their own awkward family photo at the specially designed photo booths in the merchandise area with tickets and prize packages available for the most “awkward” photos.

This weekend also sees Jamie Whincup celebrate his 250th round in the championship and Sunday’s first race will serve as both his 550th race start and also Nick Percat’s 250th.

There will be plenty of attention on van Gisbergen too, who is edging closer to a second Supercars title and will be looking to celebrate his 200th Supercars round start since debuting 14 years ago by extending his gap over Will Davison and De Pasquale in the Beaurepaires Sydney Cup.
