Brown on Provisional Bathurst pole

Will Brown’s fairytale run in 2021 has continued with the rookie securing the fastest lap in Friday Qualifying, and a ticket in the Top 10 Shootout for the Repco Bathurst 1000.

In what was an intense qualifying session at the famous Mount Panorama, very little separated the top three drivers as Brown went just two hundredths of a second faster than Anton De Pasquale.

With Brown producing a career-best 2:03.898 around the circuit, De Pasquale looked on track to spoil his former team’s party and clinch pole, only to fall just short with a time of 2:03.921.

Only one other driver was able to go under the two-minute and four second mark, with Chaz Mostert a further half a tenth off De Pasquale. Mostert had occupied top spot for most of the session, only to lose it towards the end. Despite a decent effort and improving on his time, he was unable to edge Brown.

Another driver to grab a last chance spot for Saturday’s shootout ahead was Tim Slade, who posted the fourth fastest time of the afternoon. Slade’s time demoted Jamie Whincup outside the top 10, with Whincup and co-driver Craig Lowndes set to start The Great Race from 11th on the grid.

The other drivers to book their place in tomorrow’s shootout were Cameron Waters, Brodie Kostecki, Will Davison, Nick Percat and Jack Le Brocq.

The 2021 Repco Bathurst 1000’s Top 10 Shootout takes place on Saturday at 5:05pm AEDT.
