The Turtle Wax Trans Am Series has announced its 2022 calendar with six rounds to make up the season, plus a one off event at the Bathurst International.
Having enjoyed a strong period of growth, the series will mark its rapid rise with visits to some of Australia’s most iconic venues.
While most of its rounds will be part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships, the season opener and the special invitational event at the end of the year will be run at Australian Racing Group promoted events.
Like this year, the opening round will take place at Symmons Plains for February’s Race Tasmania before the category heads to the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for round two in March.
The category will then reach the halfway mark in April when it returns to the famous Mount Panorama circuit for the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, while the fourth round of the series will stay in New South Wales – although a location has yet to be confirmed.
The final two rounds of the year will see the return of two circuits to the Shannons calendar and as a result, will see the series compete on them for the first time. The penultimate round will run at Queensland Raceway in August, while Sandown International Raceway hosts the season finale one month later.
The category will then return to the mountain in November for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International where it will run the special Trans Am 100.
Australian Racing Group CEO Matt Braid was pleased to confirm the calendar for the fast-growing series.
“The Turtle Wax Trans Am Series has fast become a shining light on the Australian motorsport scene,” Braid said.
“With over 70 cars in the country now and even more on the way, this class is no longer a sleeping giant.
“This six-round calendar for 2022 gives the competitors a balanced and rounded series, with events in all three eastern seaboard states, plus Tasmania, and two races at Mount Panorama – one for series points and one at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.
“There is a lot to be excited about in the world of Trans Am, and the 2022 calendar is just the start of an exciting future on the national racing scene.”
In addition to fighting for national honours, the series’ name partner, Turtle Wax, will award $500 every round to the team who are the best presented.
The 2022 Turtle Wax Trans Am Series begins at Symmons Plains on 11-13 February.
