Daniel Ricciardo's run of points has come to an end after a rough outing at the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix overnight.

While former teammate Max Verstappen celebrated a well-deserved victory over Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton and George Russell having started from P10, Ricciardo had a race to forget, finishing P15.

Ricciardo was full of hope heading into the race after qualifying ninth, but lost a couple of spots early in the race before dropping to 12th after taking an early pitstop.

The West Australian then produced a solid drive to get himself back into the points, which included a stunning double overtake on both Alpine cars on lap 24.

Unfortunately his race was ruined 24 laps later when he collided with Lance Stroll due to a lockup, which resulted in a five-second penalty.

From that moment on, Ricciardo had a rough run as he was brought in for hard tyres and slowly slipped down the order before crossing the line in 15th.

As for Verstappen, the championship leader managed to come away with a win of almost eight seconds despite spinning midway through the race.

Taking advantage of some errors from pole sitter George Russell, Ferrari's slow pit stops and questionable strategy, the Dutchman charged through the field to grab his eighth win of the season.

With Verstappen's main title rival Charles Leclerc finishing sixth behind Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, his lead at the top of the standings now sits at 80 points.

The FIA Formula 1 World Championship now enters its midseason break with the next round to take place at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on 28 August.
