The Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships returns after a two-month break this weekend, with the revamped Queensland Raceway to host the event.

Spread over three days, the fourth Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event for the year will be one of the biggest with up to 23 hours of track time making up the schedule.

Throughout the weekend, there will be seven different categories in action across the three days, catering to racing fans of all types.

From the likes of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series and the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series to the Radical Cup Australia – a number of categories are deep into their respective seasons.

Categories still in their early phases of the season include the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series, Australian Production Cars, GC Marine Australian Prototype Series and GT World Challenge Australia (Motorsport Australia GT Championship). For most, this weekend represents their second round for the year.

The seven entry lists have seen a healthy combined turnout of more than 120 competitors racing across the weekend.

The largest entry list for the race meeting belongs to the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series, with a field of 28 cars.

Not far behind is the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, which will welcome 27 competitors across three classes, while the Australian Production Cars will have 20 cars on the grid.

Queensland Raceway is a happy hunting ground of the Australian Production Cars, their popular Fight in the Night event a feature race at the circuit in previous years.

While the series won’t be running its attention-grabbing headline act this weekend, competitors will still enjoy a race under lights on Saturday.

Saturday is by far the biggest day across the weekend with 10 hours of racing on the schedule. Beginning at 7:30am AEST with the Radical Cup Australia, the day will wrap up with Production Cars' two-hour race with the chequered flag waved at 7:45pm.

The Radicals will also kick off the action on Friday and Sunday, withFriday’s 10-hour program to begin from 8:30am and Sunday’s eight-hour schedule to start from 8:45am AEST.

Sunday will be a special day one category in particular, with the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series to celebrate its 50th race in the morning.

The GC Marine Australian Prototype Series also has much to celebrate this weekend, with JAM Motorsport providing a financial prize for the weekend’s polesitter.


There is a lot to look forward to this weekend, but it’s the return of Motorsport Australia events to Queensland Raceway, which is at the top of that list.

Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Michael Smith was looking forward to a big weekend.

“It’s very exciting for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships to be heading to Queensland Raceway this weekend – especially after all the good work Tony has done,” Smith said.

“I believe there is a good feeling amongst teams, drivers and officials about the circuit’s return and it’s fantastic that Shannons will be the first major event there since its reopening.

“The weather should turn it on for the event, so I think Queensland motorsport fans should do their best to get out to Ipswich and enjoy a brilliant weekend of racing.”

VIP Experience tickets are also available at the above link for those wishing to enjoy the event in luxurious surrounds.

While tickets will be available to purchase at the gate, fans are encouraged to pre-purchase to avoid the expected queues at the gate.

Fans unable to attend the event will be able to tune in via extensive coverage on Stan Sport, while there will be free-to-air coverage shown between 3:00pm and 5:00pm AEST on Saturday via 9Go for NSW, ACT and QLD audiences and 9Gem for the rest of Australia.

The Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event at Queensland Raceway takes place at Queensland Raceway on 5-7 August.
