French Formula 4

An impressive season in the French Formula 4 Championship has left Hugh Barter with no reward after a disappointing weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard.

After leading the championship for the majority of the season, Barter fell to second place after being ineligible to score points in the penultimate round in Spain, needing a perfect weekend to reclaim the championship lead and ultimately, take home the title.

The Victorian’s fate was sealed after an early incident with Elliot Vayron and Pablo Sarrazin in race one, before a later incident left Barter without points in the first of three races of the weekend.

A close battle with Louis Pelet throughout the second race ended in a fourth-place finish, while Barter was forced to a recovery drive after a slow start in race three ended with his season with a fitting podium.

Barter finished the 2022 season in second place in the championship standings, 59 points behind champion Alessandro Giusti, while he still has one round left in the Spanish F4 Championship, which takes place on 12-13 November.

ADAC Formula 4 championship

James Wharton has capped off the 2022 ADAC Formula 4 season with a couple of strong results at the Nürburgring.

After qualifying in third for the opening race of the weekend, Wharton was able to convert his impressive qualifying performance into a podium position.

After briefly losing a position during the safety car period, the Victorian was able to reclaim the position and deservedly claim his place on the podium.

Starting in fifth place for the second of three races, Wharton lost ground after going off track due to soggy conditions but was able to make up those places back before a safety car closed out the race.

The third race saw Wharton finish in fourth place after a reverse-grid start, finishing off the season on a high.

The results meant that Wharton had sealed fifth place in the championship, 29-points behind his closest rival of Nikita Bedrin.

Wharton will now head to Mugello to conclude the Italian Formula 4 season this weekend.

Euro Formula Open Championship

Christian Mansell’s impressive run of results has continued, as his Euro Formula Open Championship season came to an end in Barcelona.

Mansell begun the first race of the weekend with a tight battle for the lead with the 2022 champion, Oliver Goethe.

The Australian was unable to take the lead of the race and was left vulnerable to BRM Racing’s Francesco Simmonazi in the process, who was able to pass and hold second place – leaving Mansell to reach the chequered flag in third.

The podium finish was the high of the weekend, after a pair of fourth place finishes rounded out his 2022 season.

Mansell finished the season in third place in the overall standings, which included 15 podiums and three race wins.

GB3 Championship

Tommy Smith has rounded out his 2022 campaign with a weekend to forget at Donington Park, unable to crack the top 10 in all three races.

After qualifying in 16th position during both qualifying sessions, Smith was able to move up two positions to finish in 14th place in the opening outing, claiming his only points finish of the weekend.

The second race resulted in a DNF for the Douglas Motorsport driver, before a 17th place topped off the weekend after a race to the line with Elite Motorsports John Bennett.

Smith finished in 17th place in the drivers’ standings, one place ahead of fellow Australian, Marcos Flack – who did not participate in final round of the year.

2022 European Le Mans series

Alex Peroni and James Allen have had an unfortunate ending to their 2022 season, having to retire the car after hitting the wall at the Portimão Circuit.

Allen was impressive in qualifying with an active fight for pole position but ultimately ended up third in class.

The Aussie pairing, alongside American John Falb, were running in 14th place overall and eighth in the LMP2 Pro- Am class at the two-hour mark of the race, before Peroni had a big spin-off at turn 15.

The car was severely damaged at the rear, meaning the team were unable to get the car back out on track.

The result left the team in a disappointing 36th position, ending any chance the team had at moving up to fourth in the LMP2 Pro-am series standings.

As a result of their tough finish, Peroni and Allen end the year in 21st on the LMP2 Pro-am class standings.

Le Mans Cup

James Winslow, Garnet Patterson, and Andres Latore were present in a shortened final round of the Le Mans Cup at the famous Portimão Circuit in Portugal.

Winslow endured the best result of the three with an 8th place finish alongside Alexander Bukhantsov in the DKR Engineering car, handing them their fourth top-10 finish of the season.

Meanwhile, Latore and Patterson started the race in 23rd position, moving all the way up to 14th after a red flag and safety car heavily affected the race.

The results saw Winslow and the #14 DKR Engineering team finish in 15th position overall in the standings, with Latore and Patterson’s #22 United Autosport’s car sitting one place above them on equal points.
