Molly Taylor has had a mixed return to the Extreme E Series after finishing fifth outright in the Uruguay Natural Energy X Prix over the weekend.
Linking up with Swede Kevin Hansen for her future team Veloce Racing, Taylor was solid in their stints throughout the series’ fifth and final round of 2022.
Having been brought into the series by the team ahead of next year for a change in fortunes, Taylor and Hansen gave their new team plenty to smile about during qualifying sessions after topping the qualifying standings.
It what was a strong start to Qualifying, the pair placed behind only Carlos and Laia Sanz by half a second in the first session before finishing second ahead in their qualifying heat.
They were then elevated to top spot after original winners ABT CUPRA XE were handed a penalty.
Starting from top spot for their semi-final, Taylor and Hansen each put in solid shifts to claim an impressive six-second win over Nasser Al Attiyah and Klara Andersson.
With Hansen on starting duties for the final, the Swede didn’t have the best of starts as he was in a tight tussle against Al-Attiyah and X44 Vida Carbon Racing’s Sébastien Loeb before losing out a spot.
Hansen’s stint took another hit when he was given a five second penalty for hitting a waypoint flag before giving the car to Taylor to try and recover places.
Unfortunately, the Australian was unable to move up the field before any chance of a comeback was over when she hit by Loeb’s teammate Cristina Gutiérrez.
Taylor eventually crossed the finish line in fifth in the final race, behind Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen.
