A new, behind the scenes documentary is now available to watch, showing the tense championship battle at this year’s Supercheap Auto Coffs Coast Rally.

The documentary, produced by Apatchie Media in collaboration with Motorsport Australia, follows the seventh and final event of the 2022 RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship which saw brothers Harry and Lewis Bates battle go down to the final stages.

The 25-minute feature highlights the battle between the two brothers, with Lewis leading the title fight by just 31 points over the reigning champion heading into the last round.

Fans will get to relive all the key moments of the event including at the drama of a chaotic Sunday, as well as the ultimate victory.

The documentary will offer fans a unique perspective, getting the opportunity to hear from the drivers themselves as well as Neal Bates, who took on both father and team owner duties.

Both brothers commented on their unique sibling rivalry with Lewis feeling honoured to race alongside his older brother.

“It’s tough to be competing against Harry, he is in my opinion the fastest driver in Australia at the moment and I’m pretty honoured to be battling against him,” Lewis said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Harry.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a rivalry in the traditional sense, but when the helmet goes on for sure it becomes more of a competition, I certainly want to win that’s my aim and what I am going to do but he is out to do the same, it’s probably harder for everyone around us than it is for us.”

The Bates name is synonymous with motorsport and rallying with Neal Bates a four-time Australian Rally Champion, while Harry himself won the 2019 title after a dominant run in the ARC.

“It’s something that has been in the family a long time and I think if you ask Dad he would say the same thing, that he never would have dreamed of having two kids that would then go on to win the Australian Rally Championship, so I think that achievement in itself is incredible” Harry said.

The documentary is now available to view on 7plus in AustraliaMotorsport Australia's YouTube channel and the ARC's social media channels.

Fans can also catch the extended highlights from the 2022 Supercheap Auto Coffs Coast Rally, streaming now on 7plus in Australia and Sky Go in New Zealand.
