The Sporting Car Club of SA (SCCSA) will get the 2023 State Motor Racing Championships season underway this Saturday with Mallala Motorsport Park to host the opening round.
More than 100 entries will feature in the first of four SA state events for the year with a collection of regular categories confirmed to run throughout the race meeting.
Leading the jam-packed schedule will be the Circuit Excels, who boast a strong field of more 46 cars. As a result of the bumper field, the SCCSA split them into two separate grids, the Masters and Non Masters, in order to allow drivers the chance to enjoy some racing.
Complementing the ever-popular one-make grassroots series during the event will be the likes of the Formula Vee, Improved Production, Historic Racing & Sports Cars, HQ Holdens, Saloon Cars and Sports Cars – all of whom have solid entry lists.
This weekend will mark another chapter in the club’s longstanding tradition of starting the year off with a twilight meeting and Sporting Car Club of SA Event organiser Melissa Rees looking forward to the event.
“The club is always looking for ways to keep our members engaged and this twilight meeting is one of the favourites amongst the participants as racing under lights is always quite the spectacle,” Rees said.
“We have similar numbers to the opening round of last year’s season, which is great for the competition and I think people are quite excited to get their year started.
“It’s also a fantastic result having so many Excels entered. The SA Circuit Excels Series is definitely one of the strongest ones around the country and to have so many attending further illustrates that point.
“Having a field like this sets the tone for the year and I am sure it will be a fantastic day for officials, competitors and fans alike.”
The track action will begin from 12:30pm ACDT and conclude at 9pm with all categories to get a range of practice, qualifying and race sessions throughout the day.
Race fans wanting to attend the event will enjoy free entry to the weekend’s action.
