The Collie Motorplex played host to a jam-packed Ernie Hastie Memorial State Championship round on the weekend, uniting West Australian motorsport enthusiasts for an epic day of on-track action.
Located 200kms south-east of Perth, nine categories took to the home of regional motorsport in WA with a variety of cars featuring throughout the day, including Formula Classics and a mix of street cars and sports sedans.
Joining the Formula Classics were the Hyundai Excel Cup, Formula Ford, Formula Vee, Sports Car, Sports Sedan and Muscle Cars, HQ Holden, Street, Improved Production and production cars, Saloon Car as well as a time challenge.
More than 100 competitors battled it out across the day, giving spectators plenty of opportunity to catch a glimpse of some of the most impressive project cars the state has to offer.
Boasting the largest field for the race meeting was the Hyundai Excel Cup, with Brett Sherriff topping his 14 direct competitors in all three races to finish ahead of Jack Clohessy and Jackson Callo.
David Caisley was just as impressive in the Formula Vee category, as he won two race wins out of a possible three, to take out outright honours ahead of race one winner Paul Moltoni and Franz Esterbauer.
The Holden HQ’s held two rounds of their series, and Michael Howlett was the driver to beat after taking out both rounds in convincing fashion. Michael Woodbridge was a standout performer across the weekend while Troy Kent and Dennis Russell also endured podium finishes.
Aidan Friel and Mason Harvey both clean swept their respective categories across the weekend, with both featuring a competitive battle for midfield positions in the outright standings.
Multiple classes featured in the Time Attack, with Garry Rodney Vanoosten, Evan Edwards, Russell Benn and Craig Saywell all taking home class honours, with Saywell topping the largest field in the Historic Touring Cars under 3000cc.
In the Formula Classic, William Norman piloted his Ralt RT4 to glory mirroring the efforts of Logan Eveleigh who was also able to win all three races across the weekend in the Formula Ford category.
Walter Epple joined the winners list behind the wheel of his Porsche 997 in the Sports Car, Sports Sedan and Muscle Cars category, with Ryan Humfrey also walking away with class honours.
