Tom Sargent had a weekend he won't forget after taking a maiden Porsche Carrera Cup North America race win at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca overnight.
After qualifying in second place earlier in the weekend, the 21-year-old took full advantage of an incident up ahead to find himself in the lead of the race following a safety car restart.
From there, Sargent was able to storm his way to a commanding six-and-a-half-second victory.
While he couldn’t make it back-to-back race wins, a podium finish in race two rounded out a personal-best weekend in the one-make Porsche category.
The meeting will also be etched in the memory of Queenslander Bayley Hall, who marked his inaugural appearance on the international Porsche stage.
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia rookie had a fantastic start to life overseas with a seventh place finish in the opening race, before an unfortunate race two qualifying result for saw Hall fighting for positions outside the top 10.
There were more podium celebrations for another two young Australians who featured in the Italian Formula 4 Championship at Mugello the same weekend.
First, it was Gianmarco Pradel who claimed his first champagne spray of the year with a third place finish in the weekend's opening race, before Ferrari Driver Academy star James Wharton finished on a high note by taking the same honour on the podium in race three.
The third place finish rounded out an uncharacteristic weekend for the Victorian, who lost ground to the championship’s top three after an eighth and ninth place finish in the opening two races.
Meanwhile, a seventh place finish in Race 2 bagged Pradel some valuable points ahead of the season finale in Rome, while a pair of 14th place finishes rounded out the weekend for Jack Beeton after finishing 22nd in race one.
Calan Williams was also in action in the final endurance race of GT World Challenge Europe’s 2023 season in Barcelona.
The former FIA Formula 2 driver was able to muster fourth place in the Gold Cup and 21st outright after a less than ideal qualifying result had both he and Team WRT on the back foot early – leaving a dent in the teams' class glory aspirations.
