The Repco Supercars Championship battle will go down to the wire following another exciting afternoon of racing at the Gold Coast 500.

David Reynolds won Sunday’s 250km outing with an impressive drive on the streets of Surfers Paradise, while Championship leader Brodie Kostecki came home in second. The points gap in his Championship lead means he will have to keep the chasing Shane van Gisbergen at bay in the final round to secure his first ever title.

The race was another tight tussle throughout the 85-lap affair, with a number of lead changes in the dying stages as Reynolds and Kostecki were exchanging some engaging battles.

A late safety car intervention saw drivers enjoy a four lap sprint to the finish with all eyes on the front pair.

Ultimately, Reynolds came out on top crossing the chequered flag only a tenth a second ahead of Kostecki.

Yesterday’s race winner Cameron Waters rounded out the podium in third.

Earlier in the day, it was a hectic Top 10 Shootout, which saw Kostecki claim pole, narrowly ahead of Saturday’s race winner, Waters.

A number of cars suffered problems of their own throughout the shootout, including Anton De Pasquale and Shane van Gisbergen who triggered the kerb strikes and could not set a time, while Waters and Brown had incidents of their own and were unable to match it with the rest of the field given their off-track exploits.

That gap in the Championship standings between Kostecki and van Gisbergen now sits at 131 points heading into the final round, with 300 points on offer in the final round and no other driver in contention.

It will all come down to the season finale, with the VAILO Adelaide 500 on 23-26 November.
