Mount Panorama will roar to life this weekend, when on-track action at the Repco Bathurst 1000 gets underway.

This year’s event appears as open as ever, with seven drivers from six different teams claiming a victory in 2024 already, and more than half of the 26-car field having scored a podium.

The latest driver to stand on the podium was PremiAir Nulon Racing’s James Golding, who finished third with David Russell at September’s Penrite Oil Sandown 500.

The result was Golding’s first career podium and the first in the history the Peter Xiberras-owned team, the youngest team in the championship in just their third season.

Paired with Russell – who finished second in the Great Race last year with Brodie Kostecki – Golding is largely viewed as a dark horse in next weekend’s race. The 28-year-old qualified fourth last year and had a top five finish at the season opening Thrifty Bathurst 500 in February.

Dick Johnson Racing driver Anton De Pasquale is hoping for continued good fortune at the Mountain next week, returning after he and co-driver Tony D’Alberto finished third in the 2023 Bathurst 1000.

Sandown was not as kind to the Car 11 pairing last month, finishing 14th after starting third, but the Werribee native has regularly been among the quickest drivers around Mount Panorama since his debut in 2018.

With his looming departure to Team 18 at the end of this season, De Pasquale is eager to pick up more podiums and race wins for the famed Shell team in the season’s final three rounds.

Festivities get underway Wednesday 9 October with the Street Party in Bathurst’s CBD.

On-track action begins on Thursday, with the Great Race to take place on Sunday morning from 11:30am AEDT.

Live coverage of the Repco Bathurst 1000 can be found on Foxtel and the Seven Network, with live streaming available on Kayo and 7plus.
