Supercheap Auto TCR Australia
Jordan Cox secured Garry Rogers Motorsport’s first win with their Australian-built Peugeot 308 in Race Two of an eventful Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series at ColorSpec Race Sydney.
Cox held off Dylan O’Keeffe and Josh Buchan for the victory, marking the car’s triumph in only its second race. A crash on the first lap ended Zac Soutar’s points lead, while Aaron Cameron surged from the back of the grid to fourth, before being hit and dropping to sixth. Cox fended off a late challenge to win, with Buchan’s third-place finish giving him the series lead.
Buchan later claimed victory in the third and final race, securing the round win for the Sydney weekend. The Hyundai driver held off a late charge from O’Keeffe, who recovered from a slow start to finish second. Aaron Cameron finished third, starting from the back and earning the fastest lap bonus point. The race saw only 11 cars, as several were out due to a Race Two incident. Zac Soutar returned after repairs, finishing eighth to keep his title hopes alive.
The series finale will be at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International in November. Get your tickets now at www.motorsporttickets.com.au
First Focus Radical Cup Australia
First Focus Radical Cup Australia delivered thrilling sprint races on Sunday, with Cooper Cutts and Bart Mawer securing race wins on Sunday. Title contenders Peter Paddon and Cutts fiercely battled across the weekend’s four 25-minute races, with Paddon finishing ahead in race four to maintain his series lead. Joining them on the podium was Justin Tigani, who had a standout weekend.
Mark Brame finished fourth, with two-time winner Mawer in fifth. In Race Three, Cutts overtook Paddon for a dramatic last-lap victory, while Josh Hunt’s exceptional Race Four saw him charge from the back to fourth after a DNF on Saturday.
Race Four ended under the Hyundai Safety Car after Brad Russell spun following contact, with Mawer taking the lead just before the caution. The series now heads to its final round at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International, where the title will be decided in November.
Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars
Sunday’s first 30-minute race at the PVS Sydney Stoush, part of the 2024 Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars season, delivered intense action as competitors fought for valuable points.
Dean Campbell claimed his third consecutive victory, winning outright and in class X with his BMW M2. Grant Sherrin finished second after recovering from a mid-race incident with Campbell, while Tyler Mecklem secured third outright and first in class A2 with his Ford Mustang. A post-race investigation deemed the contact between Campbell and Sherrin a racing incident.
In the final, hour long race on Sunday, it was Cameron Crick who was immediately dominant. Crick, was a 10thplace finisher from last weekend’s Bathurst 1000, held off Grant Sherrin in his BMW M4. However the emergence of the Hyundai Safety Car, brought out due to the Jarvis VW Polo GTI suffering a failure on track, saw the two front runners dive into the pits to try and take advantage. However with a safety car being called, it was ruled that those stops would not count as their compulsory pit stop (CPS), meaning they would need to return to serve the CPS. Sherrin would ultimately try to fight that, but race control immediately ruled against him; crossing the line in first from Crick, but immediately served with a two-lap penalty.
It would mean the DA Campbell BMW M2 would take the win and the weekend.
Monochrome GT4 Australia
In Monochrome GT4 Australia, Marcos Flack and Tom Hayman extended their Silver Cup lead in Monochrome GT4 Australia with back-to-back victories at ColorSpec Race Sydney. The Method Motorsport duo dominated Sunday’s one-hour race, leading the 20-car field.
Behind them, Pro-Am victors Josh Buchan and Jason Yu finished second overall after an impressive 14 overtakes. Anthony Levitt secured a clean sweep of AM class wins in his McLaren Artura GT4, while Jacob Lawrence clinched the 2024 AM class title with a second-place finish alongside John Bowe.
Sunday’s race saw early drama with a five-second penalty for Shane Smollen, but Hayman soon took the lead, building a strong margin before the Hyundai Safety Car bunched the field. After smooth pit stops, Flack maintained the lead. In the Pro-Am class, Josh Buchan’s late surge from 13th place secured victory, while George Miedecke took second in Silver Cup.
As Monochrome GT4 Australia heads to its final round at Mount Panorama, title battles are heating up, with the last race set for November 8-10 during the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.
Giti Australian Formula Open
Warmer weather was on the menu on Sunday for the wings and slicks category for ColorSpec Race Sydney, and Tim Macrow Racing’s Ryan MacMillian was once again the driver to beat in Race Two.
MacMillian got away cleanly from the line, leaving teammate Thomas Gallagher to fend off the charging Kyle Evans, who, in similar fashion to Saturday’s race, managed to take the inside line and claim second. But the pace of Gallagher would prove to be too much, with the youngster from Melbourne taking the flag in second, with Evans third.
In their final race for the weekend, Ryan MacMillian yet again lined up on pole position, this time as the series’ Champion-elect.
A strong start meant that he yet again got away in front, but further down the field it was young Jayden Hamilton, who is a ‘Bully Zero’ ambassador, who in a Formula 4 car, was able to bring real pace to competitors in Formula 3 cars around him.
But it would be MacMillian who would take the flag as the race and round winner, but also as the 2024 Series Champion, Kyle Evans would come home to claim second, after Thomas Gallagher took himself off track in an attempt to pass into turn 11.
The final round of the 2024 Shannons SpeedSeries will be Supercheap Auto Bathurst International from 8-10 November. Get your tickets now at www.motorsporttickets.com.au.
