Rob Roy to make history
Wednesday 23 October, 2024
Rob Roy and MG Car Club of Victoria will host an all-electric hillclimb this weekend.
An all-electric vehicle hillclimb event will debut this weekend at the iconic Rob Roy Hillclimb in Victoria, one of the first of its kind in Australia.
Located in Christmas Hills at the historic Clinton’s Pleasure Grounds, the hillclimb will take place on Saturday 27 October, for an officially sanctioned electric-only event.
Organised by MG Car Club of Victoria, the event will welcome leading manufacturers including Tesla, MG, BYD, KIA, Polestar, and other custom electric vehicle (EV) conversions to compete at the event.
Action for the day will begin at 10am and finish at approximately 4pm. Spectators are welcome at this event, with gates opening at 8am.
“We are excited to host this pioneering event at Rob Roy Hillclimb,” said MG Car Club of Victoria Treasurer and Event Organiser, Rhys Timms.
“This hillclimb not only celebrates the innovation and progress in electric vehicle technology, but also underscores our commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly motorsport."
All proceeds made from the event will go back into the restoration efforts around the historic track, including towards sustainability initiatives.
Rob Roy is recognised as one of the oldest permanent hillclimbs in the world, the only older tracks being Prescott and Shelsley Walsh in the United Kingdom.
Three-time Formula One World Champion Sir Jack Brabham is one of the names etched into the winner’s list at the track in both Outright and Class record holders.
The short length of the course is an ideal location to run an EV event, with one car on track without any impediments to allow energetic EV competition.
