At this point in time, options for insurance cover while a vehicle is operating on track remain very limited.
The only option presently available is cover for non-competitive track days. However, this type of cover is prohibitively expensive, with premiums starting from around $1,000 per day.
Static and transit insurance however can be useful when your vehicle is not on track. This type of cover can protect the vehicle while its stored, including at your home or at a race venue, as well as while it is being transported to and from motorsport events.
Importantly, this cover ceases once the vehicle is operating under its own power. It therefore does not provide protection while the vehicle is being driven or competing on track.
On-track insurance remains an area of interest, and MGA Insurance continues to explore potential solutions for competitors. Should suitable insurance options become available, Motorsport Australia will communicate this through its official channels.
In the meantime, competitors are encouraged to carefully review the terms and conditions of any insurance policy to ensure they understand exactly when their vehicle is and is not covered.
