Former Formula 1 development driver Susie Wolff launched the ‘Dare to be Different’ program in 2018. Motorsport Australia joined forces with Susie Wolff to introduce the program to Australia. The initiative was designed to help young girls from around Australia understand the opportunities that await them in the motorsport industry, whether it is as a driver, engineer, mechanic or one of the many other roles in a growing industry.
From 2020, the program was rebranded to FIA Girls on Track, a global not-for-profit initiative to inspire and celebrate women in every aspect of motorsport. We offer girls aged 8-22 a unique opportunity to participate in our free FIA Girls on Track events.
The program is supported by a team of Ambassadors and Champions who are pursuing various roles in the industry. From team owners, to engineers, to physiotherapists and officials, these women have a depth of knowledge about the sport and their areas of expertise. These women showcase that everyone has a rightful place in the sport and act as role models to support the younger generation into the industry.

FIA Women in Motorsport – Your Career in Motorsport
In the past decade, the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission has been involved in a wide variety of projects in every area of motorsport activity, developing programmes to advance female participation on and off the track, through initiatives to raise awareness of the huge diversity of industry roles available to women in racing, rally, teams, events and race support, media, medical support and partnerships.
Engineer your Career
Engineering is the art of applying science, technology and maths to create solutions for human needs to improve the way we live. As an engineer, every day is a challenge to innovate and solve problems. It influences all aspects of our lives. Without engineering we wouldn’t be able to carry out daily tasks (transport, construction, generate and use electricity). Engineering disciplines are very diverse. Areas in which you can specialise include Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical and Civil.
Your Career as a Motorsport Official
Every motorsport event requires a variable number of volunteers and officials, without them the sport could not function. Officials ensure that events are conducted fairly in accordance with the regulations. Volunteers and officials also make possible that the Events are run in a safe manner. Not just for competitors but for other officials and spectators. Areas in which you can specialise are technical, sporting, media and emergency.
“I was inspired by the female engineers and all that they have been through to get where they want to be in life.” – Ma’u
