The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series has made a strong return under Motorsport Australia sanction, with the Winton Motor Raceway round delivering a full weekend of close racing, competitive fields and plenty of action across five categories.

The event marked an important new chapter for the series after its return to the calendar was confirmed earlier this month, with Motorsport Australia working alongside Hi-Tec Motorsport and Benalla Auto Club to ensure the meeting went ahead as planned.

The round involved more than 14 hours of on-track action scheduled across Saturday and Sunday, with TA2 Muscle Car Series joined by the Australian IRC Racing Series, Legend Cars Australia, Australian Formula Ford Championship and Formula RX8.

Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Manager George Gambino praised the team at Motorsport Australia, the category managers and every set of hands that made the round possible amid a period of uncertainty.

“The teamwork to bring this all together, under the Motorsport Australia banner at Winton was a great success,” Gambino said.

“The competitors and teams really enjoyed the professionalism and support provided throughout the weekend from Motorsport Australia’s officials and stewards.

“The Winton round shows what’s possible when we all work together to get on track and racing.

“We’ve delivered what the categories want and need, while also enjoying the highest standard of motorsport regulations and procedures that only Motorsport Australia can provide.”

TA2 Muscle Car Series

The TA2 Muscle Car Series produced four competitive races at Winton for the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series, with Alice Buckley and Ben Gomersall sharing the race wins across the weekend.

Buckley made a strong start to the round, taking both Saturday races in her #150 Chevrolet Camaro.

She won Race 1 by 5.81 seconds over Ben Gomersall’s #32 Ford Mustang, while also setting a new lap record that was 1.5 seconds faster than the previous benchmark.

Hayden Hume finished third, with series debutant Ayce Buckley fourth and Joel Heinrich fifth.

Alice Buckley followed up with another victory in Race 2, finishing 3.5 seconds ahead of Gomersall.

Hume and Ayce Buckley again finished third and fourth respectively, while Heinrich completed the top five.

The race also featured several incidents and mechanical issues, with championship leader Tyler Cheney forced to pit with a fluid leak after earlier recovering from contact in Race 1.

Gomersall responded on Sunday by taking both victories.

He won Race 3 by 3.6 seconds over Alice Buckley, with Ayce Buckley initially finishing third before a five-second penalty promoted Cheney to the podium. Tommy Smith and Brock Paine completed the top five.

Gomersall then secured the round victory with another win in Race 4, leading Alice Buckley by 1.1 seconds and Cheney by a further margin.

Paine and Hume completed the top five, while several drivers experienced mechanical or on-track issues throughout the race.

The results leave Alice Buckley with a one-point lead in the championship heading into the final round, with Gomersall and Cheney also in contention.

The TA2 Muscle Car Series will contest its season finale at Phillip Island from 20-22 November.

Australian Formula Ford Championship

Seth Burchartz had a strong weekend in the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Winton, driving to all four race victories during the two days of action.

Burchartz began Saturday with a win in Race 1, which was declared with three laps remaining.

Oli Wickham finished second, with Isaac Demellweek third, followed by Sam March and Lachlan Mineeff.

Will Lowing had moved from eighth into the top three before gearbox issues and contact with Mineeff ended his race.

Burchartz then completed the Saturday double with a 10.1-second victory in Race 2.

Wickham held second under pressure from March and Demellweek, with March securing his first series podium in third.

Demellweek finished fourth and Rio Campbell fifth, while Lowing recorded a second DNF after his gearbox problems continued.

Burchartz extended his winning run on Sunday with another comfortable victory in Race 3, finishing 4.8 seconds ahead of Wickham.

Demellweek was third, followed by March and Hunter Salvatore. Lowing recovered to seventh after starting from the rear.

Race 4 provided a more challenging finish for Burchartz after contact with Wickham at Turn 1 on the opening lap dropped both drivers down the order.

March led for much of the race before running wide, allowing Burchartz to recover the lead. Wickham also worked his way back to second, with Demellweek third and Campbell fourth.

Burchartz’s four wins have brought him back into championship contention, with Wickham his main title rival heading into the finale.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship heads to Phillip Island from 2-4 October for the season finale.

Legend Cars Australia

Ruben Dan and Dylan Thomas were at the centre of the Legend Cars Australia championship battle at Winton, with Dan taking four race victories across the weekend and Thomas ultimately securing the championship.

Dan started the weekend with two wins on Saturday, leading home CXC Racing team owner Thomas in both races.

Dean O’Brien finished third in Race 1, while Sam Simpson and Josh Benaud completed the top five.

Dan then won Race 2, with Simpson taking second from Thomas at the final corner in a close finish. O’Brien was fourth and Timothy Reed fifth.

Dan continued his run on Sunday morning, taking Race 3 ahead of Simpson and O’Brien, with Thomas fourth.

The championship picture changed in Race 4, however, when Dan retired from the lead with a gearbox issue. O’Brien took the win by just 0.08 seconds from Simpson, with Thomas third.

Jamie Craig won the reverse-grid Race 5 ahead of brother Josh, while Thomas finished fifth. Dan and Simpson recovered from the rear of the field to finish sixth and eighth respectively.

The championship came down to the final race, with Thomas needing only to finish to secure the title.

Dan won the race, with O’Brien second and Thomas third, enough for Thomas to claim the championship.

Dan finished runner-up in the standings after his Race 4 retirement, despite taking four race wins during the weekend.

Legend Cars Australia will contest a non-championship round at Sydney Motorsport Park on 14 November, as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series finale.

Australian IRC Racing Series

Lee Stibbs enjoyed a strong weekend in the Australian IRC Racing Series at Winton, taking all four race victories and moving into the championship lead with one round remaining.

Stibbs controlled Saturday’s opening 50-minute endurance race from the start, finishing ahead of Danny Stutterd and series debutant Sam Fillmore.

John Holinger was fourth, followed by Geoff Taunton, while Blake Tracey was the first Super Development (SD) Class runner home in sixth. Championship leader John Goodacre retired after contact at Turn 1.

Stibbs completed the Saturday double with another victory in the shortened Race 2 sprint.

Tracey finished second and Holinger third, while Fillmore and Stutterd completed the top five. The race was shortened following a multi-car incident at the first corner, which also involved Goodacre and Taunton.

Stibbs continued his run on Sunday, winning Race 3 by 20.4 seconds over Stutterd. Fillmore finished third, with Holinger fourth and Taunton fifth. Tracey was again the leading SD Class competitor in sixth.

The final race saw Stibbs complete a clean sweep of the weekend, taking another comfortable victory by 16.1 seconds over Fillmore.

Taunton finished third, while Stutterd and Emily Caccaviello completed the top five. Tracey finished sixth despite receiving a 15-second penalty for contact with Holinger at the start.

Goodacre was unable to return for Sunday’s opening race after his two incidents on Saturday, allowing Stibbs to move into the championship lead.

The result sets up a final-round title battle with Stibbs now leading the standings.

The Australian IRC Racing Series will conclude at Sydney Motorsport Park on 14 November.

Formula RX8

Formula RX8 produced five different race results across the weekend at Winton, with Sean Bennett, Anthony Cafiso and reigning champion Matthew Boylett all taking victories.

Bennett opened the weekend with his first Formula RX8 victory and his first car racing win, leading Anthony Cafiso and Boylett to the finish. Brett Thompson and Matt Thewlis completed the top five.

Championship leader Stiaan Kriel was running towards the front before spinning at the Turn 5 sweeper. He recovered to 10th after contact with Thewlis caused a puncture, but did not start Race 2 and was absent on Sunday due to prior commitments.

Cafiso won Race 2 by 5.1 seconds over Thompson, with Thewlis third and Boylett fourth despite an exhaust issue. Stacy Vickers completed the top five, while oil on the circuit caused problems for several drivers.

Boylett took his first win of the weekend in Race 3 on Sunday, finishing 2.3 seconds ahead of Cadel Ambrose, who returned after missing Saturday. Bennett was third, followed by Cafiso and Thompson.

Boylett then secured another narrow victory in Race 4, beating Cafiso by just 0.14 seconds.

Ambrose finished third, with Bennett fourth and Thewlis fifth. Thompson retired late with a mechanical issue.

Cafiso finished the weekend with victory in Race 5, taking the round win in the process.

Ambrose was second, with Thewlis third, Boylett fourth and Thompson fifth. Bennett’s weekend ended with a gearbox problem.

Round 7 of Formula RX8 heads to Calder Park Raceway from 6-7 November for the final stop of 2026.
