After winning this year’s United States Formula 4 Championship, Australian teenager Joshua Car will get a free ticket to the 2020 F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda.

The comprehensive scholarship will see the New South Welshman get free access to a prize valued at US$230,000, as well as progress up SCCA Pro Racing’s open-wheel championship ladder.

Included in the scholarship will be the main ticket item of free entry into every round of the 2020 championship as well as a free one-year lease on a Ligier JS F3 chassis and Honda Civic Type R engine, two sets of Hankook tyres per race weekend and a full co-branded custom-fit race suit.

Outside of racing, Car will also receive a marketing package, Druck custom merchandise, a $25,000 cash prize from Phillip’s 66 to use on other racing expenses and a BRM Chronographes champions watch for his 2019 efforts.

It was a fantastic year for Car, who won the season with a round remaining and ended the championship with six wins, an additional eight podiums and two top-10 finishes.

"I owe this championship to one person, Patrick Flynn (co-owner of Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport),” Car said.

“He has opened up his home and heart to me and without his generosity none of this would have been possible. He took me under his wing and became a fatherly figure to me. He has transformed me into a better driver and a better person.

“A huge thank you to Patrick and I am so excited to take my next step into F3 Americas with Crosslink Competition.”

As winner of the 2019 championship, Car has also been invited to the annual FIA Prize-Giving ceremony in Paris next month where he will receive his official FIA award along with every other major discipline of motor sport, including Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Not only did Car take out the scholarship and receive the exclusive invitation, he was also awarded with the Spirit of Honda Award, which was awarded for his outstanding performance as a Honda driver and brand ambassador.
