CAMS’ popular Dare To Be Different program has been awarded a $33,000 grant from the NSW government as part of its ‘Her Sport Her Way Grant Program’.

Aimed at increasing female participation in sport, the grant will contribute to the delivery of four events in NSW – including at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at Sydney Motorsport Park and the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship round in Newcastle.

Dare To Be Different has hosted many of its own successful events around the country since its introduction to Australia in early 2018, allowing school aged girls the opportunity to experience all components of motor sport, both on and off track. As part of the program, participants take part in STEM workshops, a pit stop challenge, behind the scenes tours of leading Supercars teams, media workshops and get to experience karting to give them the full motor sport experience.

A number of Dare To Be Different Ambassadors are on hand at each event to ensure young girls learn from those who have already made their way to the highest level in the sport, including rally star Molly Taylor, Tripe Eight’s Jessica Dane, Erebus’ Bonnie Beard, media personality Emma Notarfrancesco and many more.

CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca thanked the NSW government for its ongoing support.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this ‘Her Sport Her Way’ funding grant which will assist us in delivering this exciting program to a number of young girls across NSW,” Arocca said.

“Dare To Be Different has proven to be a hit with all of its participants who are given the opportunity to discover that motor sport is more than just racing, but also that women are certainly a key part of the sport’s future at all levels.

“The NSW government has been a strong supporter of motor sport across the board and we are pleased they see the benefits that motor sport provides to the next generation as well as those already competing.”

CAMS, which will rebrand to Motorsport Australia in 2020, will deliver the program together with support from the FIA who run Dare To Be Different throughout Europe.
