Two podiums for hard working Wood

Caitlin Wood has notched up two podiums during the latest round at Watkins Glen.
Caitlin Wood secured two podiums during the W Series Esports League’s latest round at Watkins Glen.
Having entered the round in fifth place after a challenging previous outing at Spa last week, Wood bounced back in style, finishing the evening’s first race in second place behind series leader Beitske Visser.
Starting the opening race in third place, it wasn’t long before the Australian found herself second after Russian teenager Irina Sidorkova ran wide on the first corner and collided with Spaniard Martia Garcia, allowing Wood to slot into position where she stayed for the remainder of the race.
In the reverse-grid feature, Sidorkova comfortably took out the victory ahead of Belen Garcia, Martia and Visser, all of whom made fast starts and climbed the field early.
Wood on the other hand was unable to make as much progress as her rivals, finishing the race in 13th.
However another solid qualifying session for the third race saw Wood start the race on the front row and with a chance to secure serious points.
Despite getting a slow start and dropping to fourth, a rare mistake from Visser during the race saw the Dutch driver drop down the field, leaving Martia to take out victory over Sidorkova and Wood, who rounded out the podium.
While she did not end the round with a victory, Wood’s consistency saw her move up to fourth on the outright standings above United States driver Tasmin Pepper and to within 50 points of Garcia in third place.
Round seven of the W Series Esports League takes place at Japan’s Suzuka International Racing Course on Friday morning, 17 July.
