Victorian regional events to resume
Wednesday 16 September, 2020
Any events running in regional Victoria from 17 September must comply with all government restrictions, as well as Motorsport Australia’s detailed Return To Race strategy.
Motorsport Australia is pleased to confirm it will begin permitting events in regional Victoria, with competitors and officials allowed to attend events only in their local area.
With the Victorian Government announcing regional areas of the state will move to ‘Step Three’ of the COVID-19 Road Map from 17 September, events may now be run only for those in the local area. Under the ongoing restrictions, no travel between regions is permitted and this includes for those attending or competing in motorsport events.
Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Mike Smith said these relaxing of restrictions were a positive sign Victorian events would start to ramp up in the final months of 2020.
“Initially, these changes to restrictions will allow regional events to go ahead with local competitors and officials only, allowing the return of some smaller grassroots events,” Smith said.
“Unfortunately there will still be no travel allowed between regions to help limit the spread of the virus, but we’re hopeful Victoria will continue to progress through the various steps and we can start to permits more events in the months ahead when the restrictions allow.
“We’re in regular dialogue with the State Government and we expect more motorsport to happen across Victoria in the coming months which is certainly great news for those in Victoria who have been unable to compete for several months.”
