The MG Car Club of Queensland will be looking to farewell the year in style this weekend with the club to host Mt Cotton Hillclimb Goodbye to 2020 at its popular hill climb on Sunday.

Sixty competitors across 19 categories are scheduled to take part in the hill climb with the youngest competitor being 15-years-old and a fair share of veterans making up the healthy entry list.

With Brett Bull entered as one of the favourites to win the final hill climb of the year, he will certainly have some solid competition coming from a number of others throughout the day.

Bull’s biggest challengers will most likely come from Stan Popjoy and Danny Michok in the Cosworth powered Ford Escort, while Ross Mackay will also be looking to continue his run of great form having broken multiple class records in recent times.

Usually in a league of his own at the top of the time sheets, hill climb superstar Dean Amos has opted for a relaxing weekend as he swaps his open wheeler to pair up for his father’s sports sedan, which they will be sharing on the day.

With most competitors expecting to still be a bit rusty as a result of a lack of motorsport this year, club President Richard Mattea was confident they would just be excited to have another opportunity to compete.

“The competitors are very enthusiastic and appreciative that people have worked as hard as they have to introduce a system that allows them to return to race,” Mattea said.

“The Motorsport Australia Return to Race document has allowed them to continue pursuing their hobby which they’re really enjoying.”

After what has been a difficult year for the club’s members, Mattea was also pleased to confirm a special activity for them and their families, which would be taking place on Saturday.

“We’ve included some passenger rides as a way to say thank you to the people who have helped us out throughout the year,” Mattea added.

“We’re also allowed to have up to 1,500 spectators to come and enjoy the event so it will be a nice way to put an end to 2020.”

The Mt Cotton Hillclimb Goodbye to 2020 event will be held at Mount Cotton on 28–29 November.
