The Marque Sports Car Association of Victoria will begin year-long celebrations of its 50th anniversary later this month with a full field of cars confirmed to run in its first sprint for the year.

Taking place at Sandown Raceway on Valentine’s day, the club’s opening sprint is traditionally a popular event, even more so with the fact that it celebrates its golden jubilee this year

With more than 100 entries in the sprint and a further 20 running the regularity already locked in, each competitor will enjoy a minimum of four 15-minute sprint sessions throughout the day.

Following on from the season opener, the association will then run an event at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit before continuing its celebrations interstate with a sprint on the international circuit at The Bend Motorsport Park.

The calendar of major events will wrap up in December with the hugely popular All Come and Try Day, which offers a unique introduction to sprinting in an inclusive, informative and safe environment.

With the focus of 2021 being on both marking its 50th year in style, as well as increasing the participation of women in motorsport through a dedicated women’s run group, club President Bruce Astbury was excited for what was in store this year.

“Reaching 50 years is a fantastic effort and credit must be paid to all of our member clubs, officials, administrators and participants who has helped in keeping this association active for such a long time,” Astbury said.

“We’re absolutely thrilled we can hold a few events in 2021 to celebrate this achievement and I am sure members young and old, past and present will attend some events in one way or another to commemorate our anniversary.

“To start the year off with a full field of cars at the supersprint is really pleasing and I am hopeful that we continue to get large numbers at our events for another 50 years to come.

“I am also proud of the club for starting up the women-only come and try run group. We are hopeful it helps women overcome the perceived barriers experienced in motorsport and hopefully sets up more participation in future years.”
