This weekend will see a number of clubs begin their multi-club series at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The iconic venue will play host to the 2021 Porsche Club of New South Wales Supersprint Series’ opening round.

Starting the season on a high, a full field of 120 entries will be running in the first round for the year, with all drivers to have plenty of 10-minute sessions where they will rack up as many laps of the Eastern Creek based circuit as they can.

Out of the 120 drivers lucky enough to be competing and the 58 reserve drivers on standby, the jam packed entry list features a mix of title contenders, veterans, rising stars and rookies ready to make their mark on the sport.

Competing against both the clock and themselves, each driver will be split into one of six groups before event organisers combine the groups as the day goes on and cars start to falter from being pushed to the limit.

Ahead of the season opener, Clerk of Course Kim Hunter was pleased as to how popular the event was with competitors, believing people were optimistic for a big 2021.

“I am so excited because last year was such a difficult year, but to get back to a motorsport event and be on track and seeing familiar faces, it creates a positive energy for an event,” Hunter said.

“Usually this event in particular is special because it’s the first event back after Christmas and everyone hasn’t seen each other for a while. However, because of last year and how things panned out, it’s been even longer, so it’s going to be great.

“I think the lack of events last year has given people the opportunity to do a few modifications to their cars, as well as buy new cars over the Christmas period. They are ready to stretch the legs out, get out onto the track and do what they love to do.

“I have seen comments online from some of our drivers and they are so excited about this event, they are actually counting down the days.

“It’s also great to have so many officials volunteering. They all put in a 100 per cent effort and are really dedicated to make sure It’s a smooth event for everyone. They are looking forward to getting back into the event as much as the competitors.”

The first round of the 2021 Porsche Club of New South Wales Supersprint Series takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on 7 February.
