Four-way battle royale to take over Haunted Hills

Thursday 22 April, 2021
Four clubs will battle it out for top honours in the Terry Baker Motorsport Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
This weekend will mark the Toyota Car Club Of Australia’s biggest motorsport event for the year as it helps run the Terry Baker Motorsport Weekend at Bryant Park in the Haunted Hills.

Run in conjunction with the Ford Four Car Club, Rallye Sport Owners Club of Victoria and the Nissan Car Club Australia, the interclub event will see around 40 competitors from the four clubs battle it out in three events over Saturday and Sunday – making it a jam packed weekend of motorsport.

Starting at 7am in Officer on Saturday, the first leg will see participants run in a two and half hour Touring Road event where they will travel along the scenic roads of Victoria’s east to the Haunted Hills and complete a number of tasks on the way.

Upon arrival in the Haunted Hills on Saturday afternoon, they will then compete in the second leg of the weekend - a bitumen motorkhana made up of five tests on two different courses.

A special dinner for competitors entered in all three events will then occur on Saturday night, before the final leg takes place on Sunday – a hill climb of the popular Bryant Park course.

At the conclusion of the hill climb, the club with the most points over the course of the three legs takes out the victory and the ultimate prize - bragging rights for another 12 months.

Formed in honour of a Toyota Car Club Of Australia member, the club’s Competition Secretary Russell Towe was looking forward to the first running of the event since 2019.

“After missing out on last year due to COVID-19, everyone involved with the event is very excited to finally get out there again, especially since we get to relive our fun old rivalry again,” Towe said.

“For our club in particular, this event is fantastic because it’s our biggest motorsport event for the year. We don’t do many competitive events, mainly social ones, so it’s an opportunity for our members to get a real taste of competitive motorsport.

“While it is full on and there is lots happening over the course of the two days, the event has been running for around five years now and all four clubs contribute to putting it on, so everyone has a good handle on it and it’s quite easy to do. It’s a real team effort.

“Motorsport Australia has also been really helpful in getting the event set up in the current environment and we’re really pleased with how it’s all looking at this point in time.

“The event is dedicated to Terry Baker, who has gone through a couple bouts of cancer and has since recovered. This event is actually in honour of him as he has been quite involved with the club over the years. This event is a way for us to thank him and acknowledge his work.”

Entries for the event will remain open until Friday 23 April with the event to take place all day on Saturday and Sunday.

The Terry Baker Motorsport Weekend takes place in Officer and the Haunted Hills Hillclimb Track on 24-25 April.
