IMSA SportsCar Championship
Matt Campbell has added another win to his strong 2021 campaign, helping Weather Tech Racing to its second class victory of the 2021 IMSA SportsCar Championship season.
Driving alongside American Cooper MacNeil in the WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class at Road America, Campbell led a brilliant charge during the team's 73 laps.
Starting 20th overall, a combination of both drivers driving well and a perfectly executed two-stop strategy from the team helped them move eight places to finish 12th overall and first in class.
Campbell, who drove in the final stint for more than an hour put in a near-perfect weekend and took out the GTLM fastest lap in the process.
“It definitely wasn’t easy, but it’s obviously a fantastic result for WeatherTech being a home race and for us as well,” Campbell said.
“We haven’t had the best of runs since Sebring and now to get our second win, it’s a fantastic result and especially the way we did it.”
The event proved the perfect preparation for Campbell, whose next time on track will be the famous 24 Hour Le Mans on 21-22 August.
NTT Indycar Series
It was another tough day out in the NTT IndyCar Series for Will Power as he struggled at the inaugural Big Machine Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Street Circuit.
In a dramatic race that saw multiple yellow flags, Power’s aggressive driving saw him in a number of incidents with Team Penske teammates, including contact with three-time Supercars Champion Scott McLaughlin, who also struggled.
The Queenslander wasn’t at his best this weekend – qualifying in P11 before going up and down the field during the chaotic outing, eventually crossing the chequered flag in 12th.
Thankfully, Power didn’t lose too much ground on the standings - staying in 11th place after the four drivers on top of him all finished behind him during the race and didn't score many points themselves.
The next round of the NTT Indycar Series will be the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on 14-15 August.
British GT Championship
Harry Hayek and McLaren teammate Katie Milner have enjoyed an impressive outing during the British GT Championship’s round at Snetterton Raceway.
Racing in the Silver Cup and GT4 class, Hayek and Milner had two contrasting qualifying runs, ending the first session in P6 and P9 in the second.
During the first race of the weekend, the duo were fast right from the get-go and steered the Team Rocket RJN McLaren 570S GT4 to one of their best results of the year – fourth in GT4 overall and third in the Silver Cup.
It was a similar story in the second race as the duo made up a similar amount of positions in class but couldn’t reach that second-class podium.
Having started P9 in GT4, the rookie drivers ended up climbing three spots to finish sixth overall and fifth in the Silver Cup.
As a result of one of their better returns for the year, Hayek and Milner now move to fifth on the Silver Cup Standings ahead of the next round at Oulton Park on 11-12 September.
