A busy few days are set up for the off road community of South Australia, as the Gawler Road Knights Car Club (GRKCC) hosts two events over this long weekend. 
 
Starting on Saturday, the club will welcome a record number of a women and junior competitors to feature in the Denise Gosden Memorial, an event dedicated to junior and female off road participants. 
 
The following day, the sixth and final round of the South Australian Off Road Racing Association’s (SAORRA) multi-club series gets underway and concludes on Monday afternoon.  
 
Around 39 cars will take on the round, which will see them complete between 10-12 laps of the Port Germaine course across the two days and running up to 200 kilometres. Twenty women and junior drivers will be split into multiple groups, and will get seven laps of the course on Saturday. 
 
With the Can-Am Loveday 400 taking place at the end of this month, the event serves as the perfect shakedown for crews who are planning on entering the BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Cup – Central. 
 
The two biggest names on the entry list are last year’s Loveday 400 winner Aaron Haby, and Hayden Bentley behind the wheel of his popular Trophy Truck.  
 
Bentley’s son Sam will be running a separate entry and the teenager will be wanting an early birthday present as he turns 18 at the end of the month. 
 
Event Secretary Ian Mathison was thrilled to have a huge turnout for both competitions and believed their work had paid off courtesy of those who helped. 
  
"This is the most people we have had in the total past 10 years, and I suspect that it may have something to do with the amount if events we are offering,” Mathison  said. 
 
“The most we had before this is 14 in the Denise Gosden Memorial, so we’re so pumped. It’s the first time we have had this number, it’s the first time we are doing two events in one weekend and it’s the first time we are using all three days of the long weekend.  
 
“It’s been a lot of work, but we’re really happy to do it and I think the number of entries speak for themselves about how we’re doing.
 
"Making the change has contributed to the growth in attendees. It’s going to be a brilliant weekend. We have had a lot of support from around Gawler and the racing community . 
 
“A special shootout must go out to landowner Ann Barkler, and all the officials who do a tremendous job. The fact that we have such a good support really helps.  

"Eugene Arocca and Motorsport Australia have also helped out so much in supporting us for the ladies and juniors, without that support, we don't know where we would have been.

“This is absolutely brilliant for grassroots racing. Wives, daughters, partners and juniors, this is an opportunity for them to get in the car and drive."
