Schenken honoured at Bathurst

Schenken confirmed this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 would be his last as the Championship’s Race Director on Thursday prior to the race, a position he has held since 1987.
Supercars Race Director Tim Schenken OAM will remain a permanent feature at Mount Panorama, with Bathurst Regional Council renaming the race control tower in his honour.
Now known as the Tim Schenken OAM Race Control Centre, the iconic tower will be adorned with a plaque bearing his name.
“I have to say, I feel quite emotional about it. I had no idea,” Schenken said.
“It’s fantastic, it’s unbelievable. That was a surprise and it’s a special honour. I’m humbled by it.”

Throughout his time in the top officials job for Australia’s premier racing category, Schenken has helped bring unparalleled professionalism to each and every event, along with providing support to numerous officials.
Schenken will continue his work with Motorsport Australia and the FIA, which will include mentoring the next generation of race directors and officials.
