The Australian Off Road Commission (AORCOM) has announced a major change for SXS competition around the country ahead of the 2022 season of motorsport.
 
Coming into effect immediately, the SXS Turbo class will now be renamed to SXS Pro class at any off road event featuring SXS vehicles.
 
In previous years, only competitors with turbo or supercharged vehicles could compete in the SXS Turbo Class, however the Pro class will now allow drivers with naturally aspirated engines or vehicles to compete.
 
Although there has been a change to the SXS Turbo Class, now to be known as the SXS Pro class, the SXS Sport class, which is solely open to vehicles with naturally aspirated engines, will remain in all forms of competition.
 
Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport and Commercial Operations Michael Smith believed the new class would have a positive effect on the sport.
 
“SXS is one of the most popular individual classes around the country and there is always lots of interest from SXS competitors across all levels of motorsport,” Smith said.
 
“The change means that any competitor with any type of engine can compete in the Pro class giving it the feel of an open class and this change will affect grassroots, state level and national events.
 
“With SXS also to have a bigger presence at BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) rounds in 2022, it is a welcome change and we look forward to seeing many battles between the many different types of SXS vehicles throughout the year.”
 
Announced late last year, the KINCROME SXS Motorsport Australia Championship will now run all seven rounds of its 2022 season in conjunction with the AORC – with SXS competitors to be automatically cross entered in both championships.
 
The 2022 AORC/SXS Sporting Regulations will be released in the coming weeks ahead of the Cobb & Co Hotel St George 399 on 18-20 March.
