With just one round remaining in the 2022 BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) season, the AORC would like to clarify the current point score.

While there has been uncertainty surrounding the championship's standings following last month's Hindmarsh Shire Rainbow Desert Enduro, the points awarded from the event are correct according to the Motorsport Australia off road sporting regulations.

Unfortunately, the tragic circumstances at the beginning of the second section of the race saw the event initially suspended before being officially abandoned.

However, before the race was eventually red flagged, all crews had already completed the opening two laps on the Saturday and a number of crews had finished the third lap, meaning more than 25 per cent of the race had been fulfilled and results were calculated on the basis of three completed laps.

According to article 15.6.2 of the regulations, if the leading Automobile has completed 25 per cent but less than 75 per cent of the scheduled distance, points will be awarded at 50 per cent of the normal scale applicable.

As a result, the outright top 30 drivers at the end of lap three were awarded half points, while crews were given maximum points for the first section in regard to class points.

The decision to assign the points according to the regulations was a unanimous decision by the Australian Off Road Commission.

Motorsport Australia and the AORC now consider this matter closed ahead of the Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race on 21-23 October.
