The National Trans Am Series has announced a new class structure for the 2024 season, with a new Pro-Am classification to be introduced.
 
Similar to the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship, the new Pro-Am class will consist of privateer teams and drivers within the category, however Trans Am Pro-Am drivers will be eligible for outright points too.

The Pro-Am class joins the recently announced “Young Gun of the Round’ Award as the two extra classes added to the series, with the latter aimed at rewarding the best youngsters for each round.  
 
Series competitors will be placed in either the Outright, Pro-Am or Young Gun class based on their previous performances in national or domestic competitions, with eligible Young Gun drivers also able to score Pro-Am and Outright points.
 
Both new classes replace the outgoing Masters and Hoosier Cup, which were each won by Dream Racing Team Owner Craig Scutella last year.

Trans Am Category Manager Graham Sattler was hopeful the new class structure would have a positive effect on the category.
 
“The revised class structure is set to make both classes more competitive than ever before,” Sattler said.
 
“Combined with the Young Gun Award we recently announced, Trans Am is offering up some great incentives to a wide range of experience levels in 2024. The Pro-Am drivers are more than capable, as we saw with Scutella finishing sixth overall last year, and will be right on the heels of the outright drivers.
 
“There’s a lot of interest around the series, and we’ve got some exciting drivers locked in already.”
 
The series will form part of a highly anticipated Race Sandown, which serves as the opening round of the Shannons SpeedSeries’ campaign next month.

The National Trans Series begins its 2024 season at Sandown International Raceway on 9-11 February.
