The NTI Townsville 500 saw an action-packed Saturday of racing, culminating in one of the best Supercars races of the 2024 season.

Monster Castrol Racing Cameron Waters edged out Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert after a see-saw battle saw the pair enjoy an epic 88 laps of racing, with late rainfall adding to the drama.

There were close fights throughout the field and some impressive runs through the field, including an impressive drive from Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Will Brown – who finished third and kept his Championship lead at the top of the standings.

Waters, meanwhile, was understandably thrilled to be on the top step in front of a strong northern Queensland crowd.

“That was an awesome race, I had so many cool battles through the race,” Waters said post-race.

“Chazzie (Mostert) was probably quicker at the start of the stints and I was probably quicker at the end of the stints, and we had some epic battle out there, it was a lot of fun.

“My car was absolutely amazing on its tyres so a massive thank you to all the boys and girls at Tickford for wheeling me out a fast car.”

Supercars return to action on Sunday with qualifying at 9:30am AEST, before the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:05pm.

The NTI Townsville 500 will then wrap up for another 88 lap encounter, with lights out at 2:40pm.
