Vehicle Eligibility & Minimum Age Reduction

With a significant number of Formula 4 cars in private ownership across the country, both Generation 2 Tatuus and Generation 1 Mygale Formula 4 cars will be now permitted to compete together in the championship for the first time.

To assist the pathway for drivers coming out of karting, drivers aged 14 years of age are also now eligible to participate in the Generation 1 Mygale chassis in a separate Formula 4 Junior class.

The Generation 1 and Generation 2 cars will be separated into two groups on the grid, with the Generation 2 cars to be placed at the front half of the grid. This is to ensure Generation 1 cars have a safe place to race amongst other Formula 4 cars of similar speed.

This change is designed for those drivers looking to graduate from karting and are seeking crucial race mileage before competing in other Formula 4 Championships locally and abroad.

Drivers aged 14 will be permitted to test the Generation 2 Tatuus car in a non-competitive testing environment only, preparing themselves to race Gen 2 cars when they turn 15. Testing will also be unlimited in 2025, primarily to encourage young drivers to be as prepared as possible before venturing into an overseas formula.

Championship Structure

With Formula 4’s core pillar being a development category for young drivers looking to step out of karting, the Australian Championship will remain open to the needs of a variety of drivers.

A significant number of Formula 4 cars are owned by owner-drivers looking to simply enjoy the thrill of motorsport, and are not necessarily looking to use the championship as a stepping stone overseas.

As such, a number of Cups will be awarded to promote and reward drivers in different classes.

Masters Cups will be awarded amongst Gen 1 and Gen 2 runners aged 18 and over, while the Junior Cup will be limited to drivers aged 14–17 in Gen 1 cars only.

The overall Australian Formula 4 Championship title will be eligible for drivers in Generation 2 cars only.

Multiple team structures are also available, which vary on the needs of a driver. Drivers can elect to purchase a car outright and run it privately, or select a team run and prepare the owner’s vehicle. A team can also provide a car for a driver to lease and race in an ‘arrive-and-drive’ format.

Change of Promoter

The Australian Formula 4 Championship will be promoted by AGI Sport, who have been a long-standing Formula 4 team since the Australian championship’s inception in 2015.

AGI Sport will continue to serve as an active team in the Championship, with Motorsport Australia delegated with the responsibility of ensuring sporting and technical regulations are adhered to.

The Championship actively welcomes other teams and privateers to participate in the 2025 season, with interested participants encouraged to contact AGI Sport to express their interest.

AGI Sport currently also run the ARDC Race Academy, Formula 4 programs across Asia, UAE, Middle East and North America alongside its Australian operations, and have served as a technical partner of Motorsport Australia’s Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy Asia-Pacific Selection Program.
