After a successful debut at the Race Of Champions (ROC) in Sydney earlier this year, the FIA Girls on Track – Empower program will now expand to five seperate experiences at Shannons SpeedSeries in partnership with SRO Motorsports Australia.

The program is open to young women aged 18-22 and is aimed at producing real-world experiences at Shannons SpeedSeries rounds throughout 2025.

The events will be held at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Sydney Motorsport Park, Queensland Raceway, Sandown International Raceway and The Bend Motorsport Park and offer invaluable behind-the-scenes access and insights into a motorsport event.

Five young women will be selected for each event and will have the opportunity to experience a variety of rotating roles through corporate hospitality, media, motorsport operations and coordination roles.

Natalie Chung was one of the 11 participants involved in the first iteration of the FIA Girls on Track – Empower program at ROC in March.

“I was a member of the Passenger Team at ROC, I made sure that passengers changed into the overalls and helmets and were ready for their laps,” Chung said.

“My day-to-day included ensuring that all passengers had signed the necessary waivers and consent forms to ride in the cars, assisting passengers to get suited up and be ready to get into the cars promptly, and then making sure that all passengers were paired up based on their weight category.”

Chung also expressed the benefit of the FIA Girls on Track – Empower program for her own development in her career.

“This program has allowed me to meet people who have worked in the industry for years and have been in involved in other major sporting events such as the Olympics,” Chung said.

“I was able to understand more about how these people got into the industry, building priceless relationships that can potentially result in more opportunities in the future.

“My advice for those looking to get involved in other Empower events, is that the opportunity is hard to come by, so make the most of it. I learnt so much from talking to the staff and getting to know each person’s career path.

“I think the most important thing is to enjoy every moment, because it will be over way too soon.”

After the successful debut, the program offered by Motorsport Australia will work in collaboration with SRO Motorsports Australia for Shannons SpeedSeries.

SRO Motorsports Australia’s Head of Sporting and Business Development, Abi Hay highlighted the importance of the FIA Girls on Track – Empower program at upcoming Shannons SpeedSeries events.

“The whole SRO Motorsports Australia team are proud to support the Girls on Track Empower program, and we look forward to welcoming a new generation of talented women through this amazing sport,” Hay said.

“Opportunities in motorsport are in great demand, and we hope to provide a memorable experience for these women at Shannons SpeedSeries rounds that can add to their professional development.

“There’s a steady stream of women who have gone onto bigger and better things here and abroad as a direct result of the Girls on Track program, and we hope we can provide that platform for a new group of incredible individuals.”

Positions for the first round at Phillip Island have been filled, however registrations are now open for the remaining rounds, with applications closing for Sydney Motorsport Park on Friday 11 April and remaining rounds closing on Friday 18 April.
