Officials Skills and Networking Day confirmed for Queensland Raceway

Those interested in becoming an official or expanding their existing skills will have the opportunity to learn more about motorsport officiating and develop new skills at the upcoming Motorsport Australia Officials Skills and Networking Day.

The event, which will take place at Queensland Raceway on 15 November, will bring participants together for a practical and interactive program, covering a multitude of of key responsibilities and procedures involved in delivering safe and successful motorsport events.

Event participants will rotate through four specialist streams of the day. These include Speed & Auto Test, Rally & Off Road, Event Command & Administration, and Scrutineering & Stewards.

Across the four sessions, participants will gain special insights into each area, learning from experienced presenters and experienced officials while broadening their understanding of the many different roles available in motorsport.

The Circuit, Speed and Auto Test sessions will cover flag signals and practical flag waving, hand signals, marshal positions and the importance of communications.

Participants will also explore the responsibilities of sector marshals and the various operational roles supporting an event such as pit lane jobs, grid operations, safety cars, and recovery/medical services.

For participants interested in Rally and Off Road, these sessions will centre around start control, stage command, road blocks, timing, course cars and RallySafe, alongside the road books, signs, and signals used during competition.

Event Command and Administration sessions will examine how event command teams operate across different levels of competition, the responsibilities of key personnel and the work undertaken by Event Secretaries.

Participants will also explore communication processes and the preparation of supplementary regulations and event schedules.

Meanwhile, Scrutineering and Stewards sessions will provide insight into vehicle compliance, the responsibilities of scrutineers and the information required by Stewards when overseeing competition.

A separate highlight of the day’s program will be a Fire and Rescue simulation, led by Queensland Raceway’s fire and rescue team.

Subject to fire restrictions, the activity will simulate a vehicle fire and demonstrate the use of rescue equipment to cut into a car and practise vehicle extrication procedures.

Over lunch provided at the event, participants will get the opportunity to network with senior officials, club representatives and Motorsport Australia staff.
