Winter is upon us with a strong line-up of motorsport events taking place this weekend.
The largest off road event of the year in the Northern Territory leads the way over the course of the King’s Birthday long weekend.
As part of a special 50th anniversary of the event, the Tatts Finke Desert Race will welcome an unprecedented number of four-wheel crews and bike riders in what is set up to be one of the most prestigious runnings of the meeting.
The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an annual off road, multi terrain two-day race for bikes, cars and buggies through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community. It will also serve as the second round of the Comiskey Mining Services Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship.
“Finke” as it is commonly known, is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has the reputation of being one of the most difficult offroad courses in one of the most remote places in the world.
New South Wales and Western Australia will both facilitate three events.
In New South Wales, the Mini Club of SA will head east to the township of Hay, where it will host the Australian Hay Mini Nationals from Friday to Sunday. The Australian Hay Mini Nationals is the biggest annual gathering for classic Mini and Mini Moke enthusiasts in the country. Grafton Sporting Car Club hosts the fifth round of the Motorsport Australia NSW Hill Climb Championship and the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association of New South Wales heads to Sydney Motorsport Park for its 2026 Sydney Classic.
In WA, the WA Sporting Car Club hosts the series opener of Point 2 Point at MotorMall Wanneroo Raceway, Light Car Club of WA commences Round 3 of its 2026 Rally Sprint Challenge at Winvale Park Complex and Beverley Off Road Motorsports Association will run a club khanacross and development day at its motorplex.
Tasmania’s motorsport community descends on Baskerville Raceway from Saturday for the annual Baskerville 1000 regularity event.
Motorsport Australia will utilise the abundant backdrop of Shell V-Power Motorsport Park for a First Gear event in Tailem Bend, while the Ford Four Car Club prepares for its Sandown Driver Training and Sprint Weekend at the historic Victorian circuit.
