Broc Feeney has won back-to-back races after a strong Sunday showing at Hidden Valley.
It was a lights to flag victory for the Red Bull Ampol Racing pilot, beating out teammate Will Brown in a one-two finish for the team.
Sunday’s win saw Feeney claim a clean sweep of race wins at the Northern Territory round, but James Golding’s pole position on Friday denied Feeney the opportunity to claim the elusive Triple Crown title.
Brodie Kostecki enjoyed a return to the podium on Sunday, finishing third after a strong qualifying and race performance in the weekend’s final hit out.
While Brown maintains the Championship lead, Feeney is now making his charge up the standings with Brown now only 108 points ahead of his teammate. Chaz Mostert remains in third outright, despite a tough weekend in his Ford Mustang.
It was a chaotic opening to the race, with a safety car deployed after just one lap – a number of cars coming together at turn five, some worse off than others – including the Supercheap Auto wildcard entry of Cooper Murray who was an innocent victim in the lap one incident. That unfortunate incident for Murray followed a standout qualifying performance which saw him make the Boost Mobile Top 10 Shootout in his main game debut.
For Feeney, the back-to-back wins will give the young gun plenty of confidence heading into the latter half of the season hot on the heels of Brown and in good form.
“Two wins on the weekend, pole in the shootout today – it’s not the official Triple Crown but I’m pretty stoked with that,” Feeney said post-race.
“The pace the whole race was insane… it was so much quicker than yesterday. I felt like I had pretty good pace at the start, but Will (Brown) has been pretty strong at the end of each stint, so it was pretty tough seeing him close in.
“I’ve been working my arse off all year. I feel like I’ve got my mojo back, got a bit of pep in my step this week. I feel excited, I’m pumped and having fun – and the results are coming with it.”
The Repco Supercars Championship stays in the north of Australia for its next round, with the streets of Townsville hosting Australia’s best drivers on 5-7 July.
