Australian rally driver Taylor Gill is hoping for a strong finish to his 2024 FIA Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) season with the final round taking place this weekend at the famed Acropolis Rally in Greece.

Gill and Australian co-driver Daniel Brkic have performed impressively in their M-Sport prepared Ford Fiesta Rally3 across the last four rounds, highlighted with their first win at Rally Finland last month.

Their victory in Finland now places them second in the JWRC standings, with the WRC EKO Acropolis Rally Greece the final opportunity to close the 12-point gap to rivals Romet Jürgenson and Siim Oja of Estonia.

This round could see Gill and Brkic become Australia’s first FIA Junior World Rally Champions, but it won’t be an easy battle with another 10 drivers still in contention to win the title.

“There’s no doubt that we have everything to play for in Greece this weekend,” Gill said.

“Yes, we have a chance to win the championship, but first and foremost our goal is to get through the rally as cleanly as possible and without any errors.”

Not only is the Acropolis Rally going to be highly competitive for Gill and Brkic, the pair will have to brave the elements with temperatures in the low 30s forecasted across the three days.

The Greek fixture presents tricky conditions on repeated stages with rocky roads presenting an additional challenge for Gill,  who will be keen to avoid mistakes and mechanical issues.

“Being the fastest won’t necessarily ensure victory,” Gill said.

“We had some puncture issues on the super smooth roads in Finland, so who knows what we can expect in Greece. This rally will be a case of driving smoothly and conservatively, while trying to keep the speed and momentum up as much as we can.”

EKO Acropolis Rally Greece is the final round of the FIA Junior World Rally Championship, taking place on 5-8 September.
