Experienced motorsport official Kaye Callander will fulfil the role of Race Director for the inaugural Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia season, starting at Phillip Island in March.

The appointment will be Callander’s first as a Race Director – a culmination of 30 years in the sport – starting as a volunteer marshal that has led her to being the person to oversee the safe and fair running of the Mustang Cup.

Callander started her motorsport journey more than 30 years ago, beginning as a trackside flag marshal before rising through the ranks to become Assistant Clerk of Course at the Australian Grand Prix.

In addition to these experiences, Callander has fulfilled the roles of communications chief, emergency coordinator, Assistant Clerk of Course, Deputy Clerk of Course, Clerk of Course, Assistant Race Director and now Race Director.

Callander was humbled to be appointed the first Race Director for Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia.

“I’ve been exposed to the Race Director role by being the Deputy Race Director for GT World Challenge Australia for the last couple of years, which has been great. Learning from James Taylor and Craig Baird has been an awesome experience, plus they’ve been great mentors to me,” Callander stated.

“I’m pretty excited for the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia and it’s going to be really enjoyable to fulfil the role as Race Director.”

While her appointment to the Race Director role is a first, Callander will need no introduction to her Motorsport Australia colleagues and competitors within the Shannons SpeedSeries events – the home of all six Mustang Cup rounds.

Callander has worked as the Deputy Race Director for GT World Challenge Australia in recent years, and also became the first female to be a Deputy Race Director at a Supercars event at Hidden Valley Raceway last year.

Motorsport Australia General Manager of Motorsport Operations David Stuart added Callander’s appointment as Race Director for the Mustang Cup reflects her exceptional track record and deep commitment to motorsport operations after more than three decades in various officiating roles.

“Kaye’s journey from a flag marshal to senior event command demonstrates the value of her dedication, professionalism and passion at all levels of the sport,” Stuart said.

“Having someone of Kaye’s calibre lead such an exciting new category underscores Motorsport Australia’s commitment to the training and development of officials and provides new categories every chance at success going forward.”

Callander’s lead role from Race Control will see her work closely with Mustang Cup’s Driver Standards Observer Craig Baird, plus Motorsport Australia’s administrational team to oversee the inaugural season.

The opening round of the maiden Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia will commence as part of the opening Shannons SpeedSeries event at Phillip Island on March 27-29.
