Insurance benefits as a licence holder

Insurance benefits as a licence holder

A Motorsport Australia licence provides more than just the opportunity to compete – it also includes important insurance benefits designed to protect competitors while participating in Motorsport Australia events.

Every Motorsport Australia licence holder is covered by both public liability and personal accident insurance.

Public liability insurance provides protection if you are found legally liable for causing injury to another person or damage to a third party’s property while participating in a Motorsport Australia event.

However, it is important to understand that, unlike standard motor vehicle insurance, this cover does not extend to damage caused to other vehicles while on track.

It’s also important to note that it is not a Motorsport Australia requirement for competitors to have Comprehensive Thirty Party (CTP) insurance. Further, CTP will not cover damage caused on track.

Personal accident insurance provides financial support if you are injured as a result of an accident during a Motorsport Australia-permitted event.

The policy includes lump sum benefits of up to $100,000 for death or total permanent disablement, weekly income protection of up to $900 per week, and reimbursement of up to $5,000 for eligible non-Medicare medical expenses.

New for this year, the policy also includes emergency transportation benefits of up to $25,000, helping cover the cost of air transfers from regional venues to major city hospitals when specialist treatment is required.

As with any insurance policy, there are limitations to the cover provided. Claims relating to illness, pre-existing injuries or incidents occurring outside Motorsport Australia-sanctioned events are not covered.

Insurance protection applies only while participating in approved Motorsport Australia events conducted within Australia.

Licence holders are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Motorsport Insurance Handbook, which outlines the full terms, conditions and exclusions relating to both public liability and personal accident insurance.

Please note that the advice provided above is general and does not take into account your specific circumstances. For further information, please review the Motorsport Australia insurance handbook, or contact MGA Insurance Brokers on 1300 642 000.
