Ryco Racer Report: Rylan Gray

Ryco Racer Report: Rylan Gray

At just 19 years of age, Rylan Gray is already embarking on the biggest chapter of his young motorsport career, joining the Shell V-Power Racing Team as a full-time driver for the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.

Born and raised in Muswellbrook in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley, Gray’s path to the Supercars grid was not so straight-forward.

He began racing motocross at just two years old before making the switch to four-wheeled competition at the age of 14, skipping karting altogether.

Getting his start in Hyundai Excels, Gray quickly progressed into the Toyota 86 Series, establishing himself as one of Australia’s most promising young circuit racers.

His breakthrough came in 2023, when he claimed Rookie of the Year honours in the New Zealand Toyota 86 Championship.

The achievement earned Gray a guest drive in German GT4 competition at the Nürburgring, providing his first taste of international circuit racing.

Gray’s rapid rise continued after joining Tickford Autosport in 2023. He became a race winner in the Australian Toyota 86 Series before making his Super3 debut in Adelaide just days after his 17th birthday.

Gray announced himself as a serious prospect in 2024, producing a series of standout performances across multiple categories.

He became the first driver to win a race in a Ford Mustang GT4 outside of North America, taking victory at Phillip Island in the GT4 Australia Series.

Alongside George Miedecke, Gray went on to finish second in the GT4 Australia Series Silver Cup in both 2024 and 2025, combining for nine race wins across 24 starts.

In his rookie Dunlop Super2 Series season, Gray became the youngest-ever round winner, taking victory at the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend at just 17 years, 10 months and 21 days old.

His performances established him as one of the leading young talents in the Supercars pathway. Gray went to another level in 2025.

Driving for Tickford Autosport, he was the class of the Dunlop Super2 Series field, winning four of the 12 races on his way to a dominant championship victory.

The title confirmed Gray as one of the sport’s brightest emerging talents and earned him his opportunity to step into the Supercars main game.

He also made his Repco Supercars Championship debut as a wildcard in a Tickford Mustang at Darwin, gaining valuable experience at the highest level.

Later in the year, Gray combined with Super2 teammate Lochie Dalton for the Ryco Enduro Cup, producing an impressive 13th-place finish at Mount Panorama.

Gray’s rapid progression has now culminated in a full-time Supercars drive with the famed Dick Johnson Racing operation.

For 2026, he pilots the #38 Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang, meaning he became the team’s youngest-ever full-time driver.

As his rookie Supercars campaign stands, he sits 17th in the Drivers’ Standings, providing a valuable support role to teammate Brodie Kostecki.
