FIA confirm 2019 regulation changes

Thursday 06 December, 2018
Four sporting regulations and two technical changes were part of the FIA World Council meeting.

The FIA have made a number of changes to Formula 1 ahead of the 2019 season following a World Motorsport Council meeting overnight.

For the 2019 season, four sporting regulations were addressed which include the allowance of unrestricted CFD simulations to be carried out for the development of cars in accordance with the 2021 regulations.

The meeting also agreed to ensure that fuel handling procedures are to be the same during testing as they are during race events, as well as ensuring the grid line up is clear when multiple penalties have been imposed.

The final sporting modification for 2019 would be to keep cars under yellow flag conditions until they reach the control line after the safety car returns to the pits.

The council also addressed a number of Technical Regulations including Bodywork and Dimensions (Article 3), with a host of primary changes made to the front wing.

Another major technical change was made in regards to the weight (Article 4) of the car with the limit in 2019 to be increased from 740 kilograms to 743 kilograms.

While both technical and sporting regulation changes were a significant part of the meeting, the major milestone to occur was confirmation of the calendar for the 21-round 2019 Formula 1 season.

The season will begin in March at Albert Park, Melbourne for the Formula 1 Rolex Australia Grand Prix 2019 and finish in December at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit.
