Need your fill of motor sport action but don’t know where to get it?
cams.com.au take a look at some events on the agenda this week, from state and national level through to grassroots motor sport.
Shannon Nationals
17-19 May
Sydney Motorsport Park, New South Wales
The first round of the Shannons Nationals is finally here, with Sydney Motorsport Park hosting the historic season opener.
With a huge start to the 2018 season at The Bend Motorsport Park, 2019 will be even bigger with the anticipation building for this weekend’s debut of the new TCR Australia series.
Joining the headline act are a number of regular categories including the Australian Prototype Series, the Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge Australia and Radical Australia Cup. The Alfa Romeo Challenge returns to Sydney again following a successful outing at last year’s Sydney Shannons round.
Tickets begin from $20 on Saturday or $40 for a weekend pass, while all CAMS licence holders are entitled to free entry simply by showing their licence at the gates.
Dondingalong Off Road Challenge
17-19 May
Circuit Lane – Dondingalong, New South Wales
More than 39 crews are set to do battle in the unforgiving Dondingalong Off Road Challenge with some of the country’s biggest names part of the impressive entry list.
Headlining the field is last year’s winner Justin Guy as well as well fellow contenders in 2018 runner-up Phill Lovett, Justin Chisholm and Mat Huxley who will be looking to go one better than his fourth last year.
With the iconic Tatts Finke Desert Race only a few weeks away, the challenge presents itself as the ideal preparation for the prestigious event and a number of BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship competitors will get some valuable seat time there including Nathan Chivers, David Spokes and David Chandler.
Acting as the CAMS New South Wales Off Road Championship’s second round for the year, competitors will tackle the 44km course through five races of four laps.
The DEWALT CAMS SxS Australian Championship
18 May
Cessnock MCC, New South Wales
Another national Championship gets underway this weekend with the CAMS SxS Championship heading to Cessnock in Newcastle.
With 2018 champion Simon Evans on the hunt for back-to-back titles, there will be a number of the sport’s stars present trying to stop him.
Stephen Henry, Glen Aykroyd and Japanese sensation Tadamistu Nihori will all feature at the season opener in a category that continues to build in momentum and popularity amongst the community.
With entry free to all four rounds across the year, off road fans in the area should make their way to Motor Cycle Club to get front row seats to the SXS season opener.
