The Australian Production Cars Series (APC) will take centre stage at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit later this month when it headlines the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club’s Endurance Access.
Joining the series will be a number of impressive categories continuing their 2019 seasons including the Australian Prototype Series, the Radical Australia Cup and the 2Litre Sports Sedans Series.
The event comes off the back of a successful outing in November where the APCS hosted a similar meeting for its 2018 season finale with a six hour race made up of 23 cars.
This month, the series enters its second round for 2019 with Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey leading the way after winning the MRF Tyres Sydney 240 in March.
Trailing the leaders are AM1 class frontrunners Chris Lillis and Matthew Holt, while the Grant and Iain Sherrin round off the top three.
The APC has two 300km races over the course of the weekend as 25 cars do battle in the entertaining endurance races.
The Endurance Access also welcomes the Australian Prototypes Series for its second round after a successful season opener last month at the Shannons Nationals at Sydney Motorsport Park.
It was a frantic opening to the season as a number of the big names failed to make an impact, with South Australian Mark Short capitalising on the errors to take out the round ahead of the 2017 champion Mark Laucke.
Reigning champion Jason Makris, runner-up John Paul Drake and Radical superstar Peter Paddon ended the weekend in the bottom half after retiring in the event’s second race of the weekend.
The category will enjoy four sprint races with two on both Saturday and Sunday.
Entering the back half its 2019 season, the Radical Australia Cup is heating up with three entries all in contention for the title, as the Brad and Mitch Neilson shared Radical leads the way on 200 points.
After claiming his maiden round win in Sydney, Chris Perini sits four points behind the leaders, while 2017 champion Paddon is just one point behind.
Remarkably, the Neilsons are yet to win a round. Podium placings in each event sees them on top and hunting for their first round victory this month.
The Radicals will be holding two 50-minute endurance races over the weekend in what will be a crucial round to determine the winner at season’s end.
Lastly, 2Litre Sports Sedans Series is holding its third round for 2019 with reigning champion Steve Howard sitting pretty in first place after winning the opening two rounds.
The battle for second place is a lot tighter with only five points separating second and third, Iain McDougall and Craig Lindsell respectively. Both drivers will be hoping to close in on the leader during the category’s three sprint races.
